The Canton West development, renamed Etowah Village, was defeated. It was turned down 8 to 1 by the Planning Commission, member Charles Kirby, appointed by Karen Bosch, was the only one who voted in favor of the project. It was then denied 5 - 0 by the Board of Commissioners. It was determined that the cost to the taxpayers of Cherokee was too high. There was also support expressed to follow the new Land Use Plan. If the effort to follow the Land Use Plan can be sustained it would add predictability to development patterns in Cherokee. This would be best for residents and investors alike. |
